---- From Thriller Award-winning author Alexandra Sokoloff ----

“A wonderfully dark thriller with amazing is-it-isn't-it suspense all the way to the end. Highly recommended.”
---Lee Child

Homicide detective Adam Garrett is already a rising star in the Boston police department when he and his cynical partner, Carl Landauer, catch a horrifying case that could make their careers the ritualistic murder of a wealthy college girl that appears to have Satanic elements.

The partners make a quick arrest when all evidence points to another student, a troubled musician in a Goth band who was either dating or stalking the murdered girl. But Garrett’s case is turned upside down when beautiful, mysterious Tanith Cabarrus, a practicing witch from nearby Salem, walks into the homicide bureau and insists that the real perpetrator is still at large. Tanith claims to have had psychic visions that the killer has ritually sacrificed other teenagers in his attempts to summon a powerful, ancient demon.

All Garrett's beliefs about the nature of reality will be tested as he is forced to team up with a woman he is fiercely attracted to but cannot trust, in a race to uncover a psychotic killer before he strikes again.

Reviews

"Compelling, frightening and exceptionally well-written, Book of Shadows is destined to become another hit for acclaimed horror and suspense writer Sokoloff. The incredibly tense plot and mysterious characters will keep readers up late at night, jumping at every sound, and turning the pages until they've devoured the book." --- Romantic Times Book Reviews, 4 1/2 stars

"Sokoloff successfully melds a classic murder-mystery/whodunit with supernatural occult undertones." --- Library Journal

"At the start of Sokoloff's solid crime thriller, the discovery in a landfill of the mutilated corpse of Erin Carmody, the 18-year-old daughter of a prominent Boston businessman, presents homicide detective Adam Garrett with a particularly sensitive case. Marks on the body suggest the killer was conducting Satanic rituals. When Adam and his partner, Carl Landauer, question the prime suspect, Jason Moncrief, a college friend of Erin's, Jason chants the name of the demon Choronzon, then assaults Carl. Despite what appears to be an open-and-shut case, Adam can't discount the claim that Jason is innocent made by Tanith Cabarrus, an attractive witch who comes to police headquarters to report that she dreamed of other murders—and who believes that supernatural forces are behind the slaughter. As usual, Sokoloff (The Unseen) does a good job keeping the reader guessing whether a supernatural agency is really at work." --- Publishers Weekly

Book of Shadows a thriller edition by Alexandra Sokoloff Paranormal Romance eBooks

It was the word "free" that first attracted me - a free offer on Kindle, but then, I don't normally read detective thrillers. Another word "occult" caught my eye in the promo blurb and so I downloaded to my iPad. From paragraph one I was hooked. Book of Shadows begins with a particularly horrific, yet fascinating, murder. It quickly becomes apparent that Sokoloff has done her homework when it comes to police and pathology procedures. Better yet, she's done her home worn it comes to the Gardnerian-Crowleyian origins of Wicca. Her main character, an upwardly mobile Boston detective, is drawn from a quickly solvable murder into far more complicated web of satanic ritual. The reader is drawn along too! Sokoloff paints skillful, mood setting word pictures and creates fast paced action. I stopped everything to finish the book (that's saying a lot for me). Great read, great marketing - I am now a Sokoloff fan.

Book of Shadows a thriller edition by Alexandra Sokoloff Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

This is definitely a five star novel. Twists and turns, detectives and witches, believable and fairly accurate in both police procedure and in the Craft of the Wise. I didn't want to put it down. Spoiler alert you'll root for the witch AND the detective at the end. Not a book that delves into the mind of the killer, which I liked; it gives you the how, never mind the why. I was interested all the way to the end. Will read more by this author.
There's always the fear that an author who uses Satanism and Witchcraft will go off the deep end and blame them for all the evils in the world. I have to commend Alexandra Sokoloff for keeping a balanced (though hardly realistic) perspective that worked for me. It made for good supernatural horror and a decent mystery. I can only hope that the author will return to the characters Adam Garrett and Tanith Cabarrus in a future book. The tension of the detective rejecting his skills as a 'sensitive' or even as a potential witch is delicious and could go much further. I wish more had been made of the relationship between the two with some honest talk of what is going on energetically, but I can only hope there will be a reprise. This duo deserves to go on solving more mysteries.
Supernatural suspense meets mystery as a cop teams with a witch to solve terrible crimes in which, if you believe in demons, the fate of at least a small part of the world may be at risk. The descriptions were stunning as this author understands that a single great line can take the place of paragraphs from less deft authors. Compared to the other books by this author that I have read (and I am working my way through ALL of them), the supernatural elements take center stage here rather than providing the darkness beyond the spotlight.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and must admit that it freaked me out a little reading it at night just as a storm was brewing. When my balcony door slammed shut I jumped a foot off my bed. I'd like to think the storm was merely a coincidence...

The story was well written, the characters very well developed and clearly the author did a great deal of research which creates a smooth story line and a gripping tale.

I love mysteries, read a lot of fantasy and am fascinated in Wicca, witchcraft and the supernatural so this book ticked all the right boxes.

Highly recommended
I had to walk around while reading the last two chapters I was so wired by the story. Murder, human sacrifice, evil magic, witches and two unknowing Boston homicide detectives. A skillful weaving of police procedural and demonology and a serial killer--written with the deft hand of Alexandra Sokoloff. I cannot fault one piece of dialogue or one setting description--it melded precisely and impeccably for the story. One of my favorite authors when I want a smart, sharp tale to engross me.
It's my first time reading this author, but let me tell you I am so looking forward to exploring her other works.
This is a book that combines witchcraft, satanic ritual elements plus an open police murder investigation and keeps you guessing right into the very end.
I actually found myself having goosebumps as I read some of the darkest pages in this book. It actually made me want to read it during the day instead of my usual owl-hour-nighttime reading habit....
Simply put, having just finished this story, I can say without equivocation or hesitation, I rank "Book of Shadows" as THE BEST novel I have ever read.

The aura and descriptions of paranormal activity makes this story amazingly believable. One might wonder how a tale that features a beautiful, mind-bending witch, a crazed killer driven by the demonic possession, and spirits of the dead pleading for their release; could all possibly be part of a story labeled as "believable." That's easily explained by the subject title of my review - Ms. Sokoloff exhibits true creative genius. And, we, the readers are the humble recipients of her gifts to the literary world.

I've read "The Price" and "The Unseen," and found them to be extraordinary. I'll undoubtedly read Ms. Sokoloff's other works, and I have every faith that I'll enjoy them as well. But "Book of Shadows" stands out among them.

This book is the gold standard of fiction.
